Market performance so far in 2025

Indian equities have delivered mixed results this year. The Nifty 50 is up nearly 3% year-to-datewhile the Sensex has gained around 2%. Monthly trends have been split, with both indices rising in four months and declining in four months.

  • In August 2025the Sensex slipped 1.7%following a nearly 3% fall in July.

  • Earlier, between March and June, indices staged a strong rally, gaining nearly 14% in four months.

  • January and February were weaker, adding to the volatility seen across the year.

With global factors like US tariff policies, foreign institutional investor (FII) flows, and domestic reforms such as GST in focus, analysts expect volatility to persist in the months ahead.
