Manchester United are still said to not yet be close to finalising the signing of Senne Lammens during this summer transfer window despite ongoing negotiations. The Red Devils hope to secure the goalkeeper's signature before the deadline, but personal terms are not agreed upon.

Royal Antwerp, however, are eager to make a deal. Lammens has been absent from the last two matchday squads to avoid injury.

Emiliano Martinez is another potential target, with rumours surfacing on Sunday that the club has agreed personal terms with the World Cup-winning goalkeeper. The Aston Villa shot-stopper currently pockets weekly wages of £200,000, but unlike current first-choice keeper Andre Onana, he would not miss part of this season due to the Africa Cup of Nations.

David Ornstein, football correspondent for The Athletic, discussed the goalkeeper situation on Sky Sports News' Sunday Supplement. "It's definitely an area that Manchester United are looking at, whether it's addressed now or ends up happening subsequently in January or next summer."

"They've clearly got a bit of an issue in terms of whether there's a market for Andre Onana; it doesn't seem to be the case at the moment; you never know before the deadline. Maybe more plausible, you can move on Altay Bayindir there, but he's playing at the moment.

"It's plausible that more than one comes in, but that would give them an excess of goalkeepers. Then, they really have the issue of the Africa Cup of Nations on the horizon, and they want to upgrade in that area, that's long been understood.

"Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp is a player they've looked at and have an interest in. I don't think the situation has ever been as advanced as some have suggested, but let's see what develops on that front.

"And then, of course, there are continued reports around Emi Martinez, for whom they made a loan inquiry earlier in the window; it didn't develop then; let's see if it does now. The suggestion from Villa until this point has been that they expect Emi Martinez to stay, despite what we saw from him at the end of last season in that very emotional scene on the pitch that looked like a departure was coming."
