Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has reportedly turned down a £20million transfer following his failed move to Manchester United. The experienced stopper was targeted by the Red Devils ahead of the deadline and was said to have agreed personal terms. However, the move fell flat whenUnited struck a deal with Royal Antwerp to sign Senne Lammens.

Martinez looked set to join United and even waved goodbye to Villa fans after Sunday's defeat to Crystal Palace. However, the collapse of the deal means he is still at Villa Park with the deadline looming large. He was presented with the chance to join a different team on Monday but reportedly turned the move down.

Galatasaray entered the frame with a last-ditch bid for Martinez but the move will not be taking place, according to Foot Mercato. The report states that he is unwilling to sign for the Turkish giants, who offered £20m plus add-ons in negotiations with Villa.

The transfer window in Turkey will remain open for another 12 days, which suggests Galatasaray could yet return to the table. However, the firm nature of Martinez's rejection could make it a pointless endeavour.

Villa boss Unai Emery would not be drawn into commenting on Martinez's future after the game against Crystal Palace, bizarrely replying to every question with the words: "Marco Bizot."

Bizot looks set to replace Martinez as the first-choice goalkeeper, meaning the latter could be left in limbo if he fails to leave Villa in the coming hours.

In any case, it seems a United switch will not be possible. They have already completed the formalities of their move for Lammens, who has reportedly signed his contract and undergone a medical.

United's pursuit of a new goalkeeper comes despite Ruben Amorim defending his existing options following the narrow win over Burnley on the weekend.

"They are humans," said the Portuguese head coach. "At Manchester United, everything is analysed. Everybody talks about the goalkeeper and you can see I can change the goalkeeper and these situations keep happening.

"We are in that moment. I think it is hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment, but if you look at the first goal we can defend it better.

"We suffered a quite similar goal against Fulham, because we don't do the full rotation of the team when the ball is on the other side. All these small things have nothing to do with the goalkeeper."
