Manchester United are not expecting any last-minute departures from their goalkeeping department, despite the imminent arrival of Senne Lammens. The 23-year-old Belgian is already at United's Carrington training ground to finalise his £18.2million move from Royal Antwerp before the 7pm deadline.
United have remained tight-lipped on whether the Belgium international will replace Andre Onana as the club's first-choice keeper after he was benched for the weekend win against Burnley. Altay Bayindir has been between the sticks for all three of United's Premier League matches this season, largely due to Onana's absence in pre-season because of a hamstring injury. Bayindir, who joined United two years ago from Fenerbahce for £4.3million, made mistakes that led to goals in the opening weekend defeat to Arsenal and Saturday's victory over Burnley.
Onana found himself back on the bench after his blunders allowed Grimsby Town to take a 2-0 lead in their stunning League Cup second round elimination of United last week.
A new goalkeeper wasn't initially seen as a priority by United this summer, but head coach Ruben Amorim's perspective on the position has changed following Onana's inconsistent form.
Third-choice keeper Tom Heaton, 39, hasn't played since February 2023 and is unlikely to feature for United this season with the signing of Lammens and a limited schedule. United don't have another cup match until the FA Cup third round in January and could play as few as 40 games in the 2025-26 season.
The transfer window for the major European leagues shuts on Monday, but the Saudi Pro League's deadline isn't until Wednesday.
It's still unclear whether United will receive any offers for Onana or Bayindir after Monday. Despite Onana, 29, being keen to stay at United, his future remains uncertain.
Lammens, who earned his first call-up to the Belgium squad in March, has not been included in their squad for this month's World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Kazakhstan. Meanwhile, Onana and Bayindir have been selected for the Cameroon and Turkey squads respectively.
