Chandigarh Red Alert (Chandigarh Red Alert): There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Chandigarh on Tuesday. In view of this situation, the administration has issued a red alert. Instructions have been given to monitor water in Rao of Patiala, especially. If the water level of Rao of Patiala rises, people living in low -lying areas will be warned immediately.
The police department has been instructed to take necessary steps to control traffic on all roads. Policemen will be deployed on the road leading to Togan near Dadmajra.
40 mm of rain in 1 hour
Chandigarh, which is the first planned city in the country, can handle only a certain amount of water and the natural drainage system. If there is 40 mm or more rainfall in an hour, waterlogging may occur on the roads. This has already happened in 2023.
Waterlogging can occur in Sector-10, 23, 36 and other areas due to excess rainfall. Problems may also arise in the city’s major chowk such as Pikadali Chowk and Sector-17. If the water level in Rao of Patiala rises, people may be affected in Khuda Lahora, Khuda Jassu, Dhanas, Dadumajra and Maloya.
All schools in Chandigarh closed
The Chandigarh administration has taken an important decision in view of the weather conditions. On September 2, educational activities will be closed in all schools in UT Chandigarh. However, the school management can call teachers for non-educational work. The Meteorological Department has warned that the next 24 hours are important for rain and strong winds, so students and parents have been advised to take care while leaving the house.
