Newcastle fans have slammed Alexander Isak as a “rat” following his record-breaking move to Liverpool. The Swedish forward finally completed his £130m switch to Anfield on deadline day.
It followed a drawn out saga where Isak demanded to leave the club. He had trained away from his teammates, and did not play in Newcastle’s opening three games of the season.
There were some unsavoury chants sent Isak’s way during those games, while Newcastle fans have now sent the striker a brutal farewell message following the signing of Brentford’s Yoane Wissa as Isak’s replacement.
Some supporters had hung a banner outside of St James’ Park reading: “Isak is a rat. Wissa is a Geordie. Toon Toon.”
It wasn’t just supporters that sent a telling message to Isak following his exit. Newcastle also released a short statement where they decided against thanking Isak for his contributions while with the club.

It read: “ Newcastle United can announce the sale of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a significant British record transfer fee. The Sweden international joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022 and made 109 appearances in all competitions.”
Meanwhile, Isak himself has remained quiet on the circumstances behind his departure from the club. Speaking after his move to Liverpool was announced, he said: “I feel amazing.
“It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.

“I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there.”
He added: “I think I have a lot to give, I think I have a lot to improve. I’m a striker but I always want to give as much as possible to the team, mainly goals but much more than that as well. I want to win everything. Yeah, [as simple as that].”
Isak will certainly be relieved that he does not have to go back to St James’ Park in the Premier League this season, Liverpool having already beaten Eddie Howe’s side 3-2. Youngster Rio Ngumoha scored a dramatic winner for the Reds last month.
The return game is set to take place at Anfield on January 31, where Isak will likely receive a hostile reception from Newcastle fans should he play.
