The Malayalam film industry has unveiled an exciting new superhero movie titled 'Lokah: Chapter 1 Chandra'. This film tells the story of a young woman who acquires extraordinary abilities while navigating personal challenges. As malevolent forces emerge, she harnesses her newfound powers to protect the world. The film has garnered a positive reception from audiences and is performing well at the box office.
'Lokah' has been lauded for its intricate narrative, compelling performances, and notable guest appearances. A significant figure behind its impactful storytelling is Santhy Balachandran, whose background has piqued the interest of many.
Santhy Balachandran pursued her education at Hyderabad Central University before continuing her studies in anthropology at Oxford University in 2011. However, she opted to follow her passion for theatre and film instead of an academic career.
She began her acting career in 2017 with the fantasy black comedy 'Tharangam', featuring Tovino Thomas. Her notable role as the sole female character in the acclaimed film 'Jallikkattu' (2019) further established her presence in the industry. In 2023, she made her debut in Hindi cinema with 'Gulmohar', sharing the screen with renowned actors like Sharmila Tagore and Manoj Bajpayee.
In addition to acting, Santhy has contributed behind the scenes, co-writing and assisting in the production of the music video 'Oblivion' in 2021. She is set to appear in the upcoming project 'Sambhava Vivaranam Naalara Sangham'.
Following the success of 'Lokah', Santhy expressed her gratitude on Instagram, acknowledging her parents for their unwavering support through her journey. She reflected on the challenges of leaving a stable life at Oxford for an uncertain path in the arts, stating that witnessing their joy and relief from her success is the most rewarding aspect of her career.
'Lokah: Chapter 1 Chandra' merges elements of Indian mythology, contemporary science fiction, and horror, marking the inception of the Wayfarer Cinematic Universe (WCU). The film features a talented cast, including Kalyani Priyadarshan, Naslen, and Sandy, along with Arun Kurian and others.
As for its digital release, the production team has yet to confirm a streaming partner. Reports suggest that 'Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra' may be available on Netflix following its theatrical run, similar to previous films produced by Dulquer Salmaan.
