Patal Lok: King Bali was a Danveer king, happily agreed to fulfill the wish of Vamana Dev. He followed his promise to Vamana Dev. Vamana Dev was the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, every year on the Dwadashi date of the Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month, Vamana is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Vamana Dev. Vaman Jayanti will be celebrated on 4 September in the year 2025.
According to a legend, Lord Vishnu took Vamana avatar to establish Indra Dev's authority over heaven. King Bali was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. King Bali was very powerful. He defeated Indra Dev and established his suzerainty over heaven. He was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu, and was a very charity but was in a cruel and arrogant demon. King Bali misused his power and intimidated the gods and Brahmins.
On being snatched away from heaven, Indra Dev along with other gods reached Lord Vishnu and asked for his help and asked for help. Lord Vishnu assured Indra Dev that he would be born as Vamana avatar from the womb of Mata Aditi to get the three worlds freedom from the atrocities of sacrifice.
Lord Vishnu was born in Vamana avatar and reached the Ashwamedha Yagya with King Bali. Vamana Dev pleaded with three steps in the form of alms. Bali, who was a donor king, happily agreed to fulfill the wish of Vamana Dev. Vamana Dev took a very huge form and measured the entire land from his first foot. With the second step, he measured heaven. Finally, when Vamana Dev was to lift his third step, King Bali came to know that this beggar is not an ordinary Brahmin but Lord Vishnu himself. Therefore, Bali presented his top to Vamana Dev for the third step. Then Lord Vishnu, while respecting the generosity of the sacrifice, pushed him into the Hades instead of killing him.
Lord Vishnu also gave a boon to the sacrifice that he can appear before his subjects once a year on the earth. The annual visit of King Bali on the land is celebrated as Bali-Pratipada in Onam and other Indian states in Kerala. In this way, King Bali is called the ruler of Hades.
