Actor Karanvir Malhotra, who played the role of a medical student Jay Sheth in Prime Video series 'Andhera', opened up about his early career struggles in an exclusive interaction with India Today.

The actor reflected on the challenges he faced in the industry despite having a godfather.
In the candid chat, the actor recalled his 12-year journey in the entertainment industry, from putting up film posters in Melbourne grocery stores to landing acting opportunities in Mumbai.
"This journey began almost 12 years ago, and my roots are in Delhi. I started out doing theatre there and later became a casting director. Eventually, my family migrated to Melbourne, where I began working with the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. Back then, I was like an office boy-my main job was to put up Hindi posters across grocery stores. Not just Bollywood, but also Punjabi, Maharashtrian, Malayalam, and other films. I remember going around putting up posters, handing out passes, and seeing the joy it brought to people. Some aunties would even give me ladoos and samosas," Malhotra said.
The actor spoke about his humble beginnings and the mindset that keeps him going. He said, "Over time, I started doing theatre again and appeared in a few commercials. After graduating, I got an opportunity to work on a film produced by Abhay Deol. I just tested for it, and the next thing I knew, I was on a flight to Mumbai. From that point on, I never went back to Melbourne-at least not until the pandemic. My family would call me and say, 'Come back beta, what's going on? You left and never returned!' But I couldn't help it-shooting takes so much time."
Despite the ups and downs, Malhotra said he has always been guided by one principle, positivity. "I've always believed that if you give positivity, the world gives it back. I never saw myself as an outsider, nor did I think people were cruel. I feel that mindset would only make me cynical or negative, and that's not the person I want to be."
"While 'Andhera' does trigger thought-provoking questions about greed and misinformation, don't lose your patience and stay calm, as the ending of the series might leave you surprised."
