In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Kunika spoke openly about her relationship with Sanu. She recalled her first meeting in Ooty, where she was shooting for a project and Sanu was holidaying with her sister and nephew.
Kunika said: “One evening, during dinner, he got very intoxicated and wept. He was crying uncontrollably and trying to jump from the hotel window. He was sad and pain.
His sister, nephew and I had to stop him. That night, I comforted him, reminded him of his children and his responsibilities towards his career. I think the same thing brought us closer. “
He told that soon after this, Sanu went to live in a flat next to him. They started spending more time together – eating, exercising, and they also helped to lose weight. Gradually, their relationship turned into a complete relationship.
“We considered ourselves as husband and wife. I used to manage their performance, choose their clothes and care for them like a wife. He was my husband in every way. It seemed to be a relationship like Shakuntala-Dushyant.”

But things have not always been good. Kunika admitted that he finally came to know about Sanu that broke her heart. The matter worsened when Sanu’s wife Rita Bhattacharya came to know about this affair.
“His wife once broke my car from a hockey stick. She used to stand outside my house and scream at me. But I used to understand her anger. She was not wrong – she just wanted financial security for her children. She did not even want it back, just wanted what her right was.”
