Cement stocks rallied in Thursday’s session after the GST Council slashed tax on cement from 28% to 18%, a move set to make construction materials more affordable. The revised rates will come into effect from September 22 under the new two-slab GST structure.
As of 10:19 AM, cement stocks traded mixed in Thursday’s session as investors tracked sector updates and GST rate changes. On the NSE, ACC rose 0.75% to ₹1,857, while Ambuja Cements held steady at ₹573.75. The sector leader, UltraTech Cement, gained 0.45% to ₹12,790, and Shree Cement inched up 0.23% to ₹30,010.
Several mid-cap names also saw strong moves. CCL International jumped 9.58%, while Nuvoco Vistas surged 3.07%. Orient Cement added 1.48% and JK Cement gained 0.84%. On the downside, India Cements slipped 1.04% to ₹399.55, while Ramco Cements fell 1.05% to ₹1,073.
