Mumbai: Shani Dev, often revered as the God of Justice, is believed to reward individuals according to their deeds, which is why he is also called Karmfal Data (the one who grants the fruits of karma). Worshipping Lord Shani is considered highly auspicious and brings relief from difficulties, but scriptures and traditions also highlight several important rules that must be followed during his worship.

Unlike other deities, Shani Dev’s puja is not generally performed at home. Devotees are advised to visit dedicated Shani temples for rituals, as his intense energy is not considered suitable for domestic environments. Let’s take a closer look at the dos and don’ts of Shani Dev worship that every devotee should know.

Shani Dev should be worshipped only in temples

Worship of Shani Dev is traditionally performed in temples, not at home. Scriptures state that his idol should never be placed in a household temple, which is why devotees travel to Shani shrines to offer prayers and seek blessings.

Avoid direct eye contact with Shani Dev

The energy of Shani Dev is regarded as extremely powerful. It is said one should never make direct eye contact with his idol, especially if their horoscope indicates an unfavourable Shani period (Shani Dasha).

Why Shani’s idol is not kept at home

Shani’s sharp and intense energy is believed to disturb peace and positivity within the home. For this reason, astrologers and priests advise against keeping his idol indoors, recommending temple visits for worship instead.

What to do on Saturdays

Rather than keeping his image at home, it is considered more auspicious to visit a Shani temple on Saturdays. Devotees usually offer oil, recite the Shani Chalisa, and make donations as acts of devotion.

Blessings according to karma

As the God of Justice, Shani Dev grants results purely based on a person’s karma. If your deeds are righteous, his blessings will always remain with you, ensuring protection and prosperity.
