International travel can be stressful, especially when landing in the US only to go through TSA security again before catching a connecting flight. To address this frustration, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is piloting One Stop Security, a program designed to let passengers arriving from certain trusted international airports bypass secondary screening. Checked luggage is automatically transferred, and travellers can move directly to their connecting gate, reducing delays and streamlining connections. While the initiative promises faster, smoother travel, security remains a priority, as TSA and foreign airports must maintain rigorous screening standards to ensure passenger safety.
TSA introduces ‘One Stop Security’ to reduce delays on US arrivals
Launched in July 2025, TSA’s One Stop Security pilot program allows passengers arriving from selected international airports to bypass the typical secondary screening process. Travellers arriving from certain “trusted” airports can move directly through US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to their connecting gate. Checked luggage is also transferred automatically without additional TSA screening.
This represents a significant shift in international travel procedures, aiming to reduce wait times, streamline passenger flow, and make connections smoother. The program focuses on airports whose screening standards are verified to match or exceed US protocols, ensuring security remains a priority.
Who is participating in the pilot

Initially, the pilot program included just two daily flights from London Heathrow:
  • American Airlines to Dallas–Fort Worth International Airport
  • Delta Air Lines to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

The US and UK collaborated closely to ensure Heathrow’s security processes align with TSA requirements. Over time, TSA expects to expand One Stop Security to additional international airports and airlines, but participation will depend on compliance with US security standards.
For passengers, this means fewer delays and faster travel through US airports. Your checked bags are handled more efficiently, and you can skip the stressful race through another security checkpoint.
Why ‘One Stop Security’ matters for travellers
The potential benefits for international passengers are clear:
  • Less stress: Travellers no longer need to worry about additional TSA screening after landing.
  • Faster connections: By skipping secondary security, passengers can reach their connecting flights quickly.
  • Smoother luggage transfers: Checked bags follow travellers directly to their final destination without extra handling.

However, caution is still warranted. Former TSA officers note that secondary screening sometimes catches prohibited items missed by foreign airports. While Heathrow’s standards are verified, not all international airports meet the same level of scrutiny. Travellers should remain aware that efficiency should not compromise security.
Security experts stress that the program’s success depends on strict vetting and consistent compliance. Layered protection, accountability, and uniform standards are critical to ensuring safety without slowing down travel.
TSA has long been criticised as a source of delays and frustration. Initiatives like One Stop Security signal that the agency is listening to travellers and seeking ways to improve the passenger experience. By partnering with trusted foreign airports and streamlining procedures, TSA may be moving toward a more efficient and traveller-friendly system.
For international passengers, this pilot program represents a welcome change. If it expands successfully, future trips to the US could become less stressful, more predictable, and significantly faster. While security remains paramount, One Stop Security shows that smart innovation can improve travel without compromising safety.
