Marc Guehi was back in training with England less than 48 hours after his proposed move to Liverpool fell through. The Crystal Palace captain appeared in high spirits as he geared up for England's World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia, showcasing his character despite disappointment in the transfer market.

Guehi had undergone a medical at Liverpool following an agreement on a £35million deal that would have seen him join the reigning champions. However, the transfer collapsed when Palace failed to secure sufficient defensive reinforcements, leaving them at risk of losing Guehi for nothing next summer when his contract runs out. England manager Thomas Tuchel gave the entire squad Monday off for deadline day, acknowledging that many players would be preoccupied with potential transfers.

Tuchel said: "It is one reason why we called the players up on Tuesday, to not have all these mixed emotions. They come on Tuesday, so they have one day off.

"We also didn't want to have that week too long. We wanted to streamline it towards the Saturday game and start on the Tuesday afternoon with training.

"But one part of the decision was also to give them the freedom to sort out maybe their transfer issues and the transfer subjects that come their way.

"So, yeah, of course we're interested. We need to know where we have to drive on the weekend."

The squad reported for duty on Tuesday and will now spend the rest of the week preparing for the World Cup qualifying double-header. Guehi, a crucial part of Tuchel's World Cup plans, is expected to feature in the upcoming matches against Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday and in Belgrade next Tuesday.

All 25 England players were present for training at St George's Park, with under-20s duo Law McCabe and Zach Abbott being elevated to train with the senior squad. The Three Lions are top of Group K after three wins from three, but Tuchel will be demanding a much-improved performance from the tedious 1-0 away win to Andorra in their last qualifier.
