Truro, the UK's most southerly city, has been crowned as the country's top underrated motorhome destination. The research, conducted by Ripe Insurance's Motorhome and Campervan Insurance experts, sought to reveal the best hidden gem motorhome spots across the UK, where the roads are less crowded, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the facilities are first-rate, reportsthe Mirror.

Topping the list is Truro, nestled in the heart of Cornwall and spreading out from the Truro River. Some suggest that the name Truro originates from the Cornish term 'tri-veru', signifying three rivers, referring to the Kenwyn, the Allen and the Truro River, all of which flow through the city. Owing to its riverside position, Truro flourished as a trading port for many years.

The cathedral city is conveniently located near other Cornish attractions, with Falmouth, Redruth and St Austell all just a 30-minute drive away.

One of the city's main tourist draws is the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary, constructed between 1880 and 1910 in a Gothic Revival style by John Loughborough Pearson on the site of the former parish church of St Mary. It is this Cathedral that grants the small settlement of 23,000 its city status and dominates its skyline.

Famed for its ancient cobbled streets and gothic architecture, Truro offers visitors a choice of 123 activities. For those driving a motorhome into the city, the average cost per night to stay at one of the seven local pitching sites is £19.16.

While platforms like TikTok can be a fantastic source of inspiration for discovering new places, the most viral videos often draw large crowds. Instead, consult maps, online review websites, and forums to find quieter alternatives to the well-trodden tourist spots.
