Portugal Train Accident: Portugal has announced the National Mourning Day after the crashed of a prestigious railway cable car in Lisbon. At least 15 people were killed and 18 others were injured in the accident. The condition of five of the 18 injured is critical. According to reports, on Wednesday evening (local time) in Lisbon, a historic Function, Elevedor da Gloria, derailed and crashed.
The accident occurred when a cable was allegedly broken, losing fungular control and hitting a nearby building.
The 140 -year -old Gloria is quite popular among the funkular tourists. Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moeedas called it “a tragic day for our city”.
Elevedor da Glória is one of the most reputed transportation systems of Lisbon, one hundred year old cable railway manufactured in 1885, which connects the restoraders square to the beautiful barrow alto region. Its two-car system climbs the standing hills and serves both the local people and millions of annual tourists of the city. Each tram can seated 42 passengers and is operated by Caris, the public transport operator of the Lisbon.
