Giving relief to consumers and common man before the festive season, the GST Council headed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has decided to reduce GST rates on many items. In the 56th meeting of the GST Council chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, significant cuts were approved for the goods of various fields on Wednesday. The new rates will be implemented from the beginning of Navratri from 22 September 2025.

In the GST Council meeting, the government has exempted GST on at least 60 items including three life saving medicines and 33 other drugs to make the living for the common man more economical. These items have been made tax free.

• Pizza bread
• Chapati or bread
• Paratha
• Indian rotis, whether known by any name
• Eraser
• 33 medicines and medicines
• 3 life saving drugs and medicines used for the treatment of cancer, rare diseases and other severe long -term diseases
• Notebook, graph book
• All types of maps, globes
• Gimpked yarn, and strip and other similar items
• Chenil yarn (including flock chainil yarn)
• Loop well
• Pencil sharpener
• Pencils (including propelling or sliding pencil)

Rebate on health insurance and life insurance

The GST Council announced a zero GST rate on all personal life insurance policies, whether it is term life, ULIPs or Endowment policies to make insurance cheaper for the common man and increase insurance coverage in the country. Additionally, Sitharaman announced that all individual health insurance policies (including family floater policies and policies for senior citizens) and their renewal would be exempted from GST.
