A video of a bizarre incident of an elderly man urinating near an aircraft on the runway at Darbhanga airport in Bihar has gone viral. The alarming incident took place when a man dressed in traditional white kurta-pyjama was seen sitting near the aircraft on the active runway. The pilot made a video of the incident from the cockpit, in which the man is seen standing on the grassy area just a few metres away from the aircraft.
The man's position in the grassy area adjacent to the runway indicates a breach of multiple levels of airport security. Due to the critical nature of aircraft operations, such areas are usually restricted and monitored to prevent unauthorized access. Airport authorities maintain multiple security layers, including perimeter fences, surveillance systems and security patrols, to prevent such unauthorized access. This incident may require a review of these security measures. However, the 9-second video has been viewed more than 285,000 times, and social media users have reacted with laughter and concern.
In the background, other passengers queue up to board the plane whiles the pilot who recorded the video laughs.
Another said, "My country is changing, moving forward 😂😂. Biharis never fail to surprise us."
Some people taught that man and the pilot a lesson.
One user commented, "There are enough toilets in airport terminals yet these idiots do this in the open. Disgusting civic sense of some Indians, they will never learn."
Another said: "Pilots making fun of an old man. Old people have bladder control problems. Shameful."
The
man's presence near active aircraft operations created a dangerous situation that could have affected flight safety. A clear and unobstructed runway area is required for aircraft movement to ensure safe takeoff and landing.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is yet to issue any official response on the incident. It is not yet known whether the man was a passenger or a staff member, or from which airline's cockpit the clip was shot.
