Poundland is set to shut another one of it stores following a mass closure that took place at the end of August. It comes as the UK high street has seen a series of retailers shut down stores due to a change in consumer habits which is resulting in a fall in profits for many companies.
The budget retailer planned to shut down numerous stores in order to save the company from collapsing. In June, the chain prepared to close down 68 stores after it was sold by Pepco Group to Peach Bidco, a subsidiary of private equity firm Gordon Brothers, for just £1.
Poundland recieved a court approval it's a major restructuring plan on Tuesday, August 26, after informing the judge that the plan would save it from entering administration.
The court was told that if the scheme had not been approved, the company would have run out of money by September 7, and just days following the approval 11 stores across the nation shut down permanently.
So far this year a total of 51 stores have closed, with more scheduled to.
A store in Irvine, Scotland is set to close on September 14 and Poundland have confirmed it will shut 16 more stores but the locations have not be disclosed yet.
It is believed that the closure dates for the 16 branches will be announced later in the year, when employees will be informed.
