But a song from the film created such a ruckus which is remembered till date. The lyrics were “Gora Rang, Chunariya Kali”. The song was shot on Mahmood and his real sister Meenu Mumtaz. In this song, both of them were seen flirting and molesting each other. As soon as the film was released and people saw the brother-sister romancing on the screen as a lover-girlfriend, they were stunned. In that period, this was not done at all from the audience’s neck. People severely criticized it and described it against Indian culture and relationships. This one song had created such a huge ruckus that Mahmood and Meenu Mumtaz had to face the great anger of the people. Who was Meenu Mumtaz? Meenu Mumtaz was a well-known actress and dancer of her time. His real name was Malikunnisa Ali. It is said that famous actress Meena Kumari named her ‘Meenu’. She was from a large family, and she had eight siblings including Mahmud. His father Mumtaz Ali was also a famous dancer and actor. What was the effect of the controversy? The effect of this controversy was so deep that after this, Mahmood and Meenu Mumtaz worked together in many films, but again in any film, he was never shown as a lover-girlfriend. Directors and producers were also afraid to bring the pair on screen in a romantic style. Later, in 1963, Meenu Mumtaz took S.
