It turns out, making juicier and tastier chicken is ridiculously easy-you just need a handful of ingredients. Mary Berry's sticky honey garlic marinade adds flavour and consistency to the usual chicken dinner. The recipe is simple, straightforward, and only takes 30 minutes to prepare.

Sharing the recipe from the legendary chef's Classic series, BBC Food said: "Mary Berry's sticky honey garlic chicken recipe is an old family favourite that's quick, easy and delicious. You can also use separate thighs and drumsticks."

How to make Mary Berry's sticky honey garlic chicken

Ingredients

  • Six chicken legs

For the marinade

  • Six tbsp tomato ketchup
  • Two tbsp tomato purée
  • Two tbsp grainy mustard
  • Three tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Two tbsp runny honey
  • One garlic clove, crushed

Method

  • Start by scoring the tops of the chicken legs with a sharp knife, creating shallow cuts to help the flavours penetrate. Lay the prepared chicken pieces in a wide, shallow dish.
  • In a separate bowl, combine all the marinade ingredients, mixing thoroughly until fully blended. Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring each piece is well coated by turning them gently in the mixture. Cover the dish and place it in the fridge for a minimum of 30 minutes to allow the flavours to develop.
  • When ready to cook, preheat the oven to 220C (200C for fan ovens) or gas mark seven.
  • Prepare a roasting tin by lining it with baking parchment. Arrange the marinated chicken legs in a single, even layer across the tin. Drizzle any remaining marinade over the top, then roast in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes. The chicken should be a deep golden-brown colour, slightly sticky, and cooked all the way through. Serve while still hot.
