Vernon Kay said his wife Tess Daly doesn't mince her words when it comes to critiquing his clothing choices. Reflecting on his former modelling career, the 51-year-old believes this line of work helped him "become more of an individual".

He explained: "I could never understand how one designer could influence what the world should wear, so I thought, 'Well, I'm going to wear what I want to but I want people to see that I do follow fashion'.

"Music is the biggest influence on what I wear, like rock and roll and a bit of the old school rave culture - not what it became but the old school, which was quite rebellious and a bit anti-establishment."

When asked about how honest he and Tess are regarding each other's fashion choices, the BBC Radio 2 host told The Metro newspaper: "Oh, she's very opinionated on what I wear."

Praising his wife's outfit selections, as seen on Strictly Come Dancing, he continued: "But, when she comes down the stairs on the TV, I always think she looks perfect."

Vernon pursued modelling during the 1990s, before transitioning into television.

His journey started when he was discovered by a talent scout at the BBC's Clothes Show Live in the 1990s, and went on to model for labels including Topman.

This lesser-known career chapter was short-lived, as he quickly pivoted into the world of presenting.

His first major TV opportunity was on Channel 4's T4 in 2000, and he now currently presents various gigs, including his mid-morning show on BBC Radio 2.

Similarly to her spouse, Tess also launched her career as a model, before making the switch to television.

Discovered outside a McDonald's at the age of 18, she embarked on an international modelling career, gracing catwalks in Tokyo, Paris, and New York.

The mum-of-two enjoyed a decade-long stint as a model before transitioning to television presenting in the late '90s.

She first charmed UK viewers as a presenter in 2000, before landing the gig as one of the Strictly Come Dancing hosts in 2004.

Tess and Vernon's paths first crossed at a BBC Christmas bash in 2001, which led to their marriage two years later.

The couple have since welcomed two daughters, Phoebe, 20, and Amber, 16.

Reflecting on their initial spark, Tess revealed to Digital Spy: "It was all quite immediate, really... we instantly had such a blast together.

"I couldn't imagine having more fun with anyone else. It was pretty explosive, I tell you."

As they marked their 20th wedding anniversary in 2023, the TV star also shared the secret to their enduring marriage.

Responding to a fan, she said: "We still sit down for dinner and have so much to talk about and we have a real laugh.

"I see his name come up on my phone and go 'yay', [there's] never a dull moment."
