Halifax customers are set to miss out on the opportunity to win up to £100,000 following a service cancellation.

The British banking chain has confirmed that its popular Savers Prize Draw will no longer be available to customers, 14 years after its initial launch. Customers had the chance to enter the prize draw every month.

Once the final prizes are distributed this month, savers will no longer have access to it. Previously, three customers each month had the chance to win £100,000, in addition to 100 other prizes worth £100.

In certain instances, customers could also bag as much as £500,000 in a rare 'superdraw'. Savers were eligible for the prize draw provided they had £5,000 or more in an eligible account for a month.

A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group stated: "Our customers' expectations continue to change, and we are taking the opportunity to look at how we can reward customers in different ways in the future.

"Our Savers' Prize Draw has made a huge difference to thousands of customers, with over £100 million awarded since our first draw in 2011."

This comes as many Halifax customers are set to see their local branches shut down throughout September. The bank announced that a total of 13 branches will permanently close their doors this month due to a shift towards online banking among customers.

The bank had previously reported a 48% decrease in face-to-face banking interactions over a five-year period. Research from consumer watchdog Which? also revealed that banks and building societies have shut down 6,214 branches since January 2015.

Despite these closures, customers were told that they could still fulfil their everyday banking needs at a Bank of Scotland or Lloyds branch, as they are part of the same group. Additionally, customers can perform some services at their local Post Office, such as cash withdrawals and deposits.
