Bhubaneswar: Madhusmita Behera, former Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Badachana police station in Odisha’s Jajpur district, has been suspended suspended with immediate effect for gross misconduct and negligence in duty.

An order issued by the State Police Headquarters on Saturday stated that a disciplinary proceeding is being contemplated against Inspector Madhusmita Behera.

During the suspension period, Behera will remain under the disciplinary control of the Superintendent of Police, Jajpur. She will be entitled to draw subsistence allowance (SA) and dearness allowance (DA) as per Rule 90 of the Odisha Service Code.

While the order did not specify the exact reason for the suspension, the action comes in the wake of serious allegation against Behera when she was IIC of Badachana Police Station. The officer was recently accused of illegally detaining a businessman from Cuttack district for three days and allegedly extorting huge money for his release.
