Ficus carica has been used in Indian domestic and Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. Often people eat it as a fruit, which is placed in the veg (vegetarian) category. But some disputed information has come to light, claiming that figs actually falls under the category of non -vegetarian (non -vegetarian). What is the truth of this thing? What do experts say?

Fig: Fruit or anything else?

First of all, it has to be understood that fig is a fruit, usually included in a vegetarian food. This fruit is sweet, nutritious and rich in fiber. But some people show it the reason for calling it “non -veg” that figs contain enzymes that help digest meat. For this reason, it is considered close to the “non -vegetarian” elements.

In fact, proteolytic enzymes found in figs help in breaking meat such as meat, which is considered to be helpful in digestion for non -vegetarians. That is why some people connect it to non -veg.

Experts’ opinion

Nutritionist, explaining, “Fig is a natural fruit that contains protein -digested enzymes. This does not mean that fig is non -veg. It is counted as a vegetarian food.”

He says that the enzymes of figs improve digestion in the body, especially consumption with non -vegetarians, the meat is digested quickly and well. But this does not bring this fruit under the category of non -veg.
