A mate of a cherished TV personality who featured on Gogglebox once disclosed the final wish she made of them before her passing.

Since the adored Channel 4 programme launched back in 2013, it has brought us numerous legendary households across the nation.

From Giles Wood and Mary Killen in Wiltshire to the Siddiqui family in Derby, the participants consistently keep Britain amused with their brilliant quips and amusing reactions to television's finest moments.

Initially, when the series debuted more than a decade ago, comedian and actress Caroline Aherne served as its narrator. Caroline is most recognised for creating and performing in the iconic BBC sitcom The Royle Family, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Celebrated for her remarkable comic abilities, Caroline left behind an extraordinary legacy following her passing at merely 52 years of age in 2016, two years after receiving her lung cancer diagnosis.

After her death, Caroline's mate Craig Cash took over as narrator for Channel 4. Craig starred in The Royle Family with Caroline, where they portrayed couple Dave and Denise.

Craig subsequently disclosed that Caroline had specifically requested he take over and cover for her on the programme whenever she was too unwell to work.

He told Radio Times: "In November 2013, when she was gravely ill with cancer, Caroline asked if I'd narrate Gogglebox when she wasn't up to it.

"Of course, I said yes; it was a very sad time and I wanted to do right by her and by the programme. Caroline was well and then unwell, well and unwell, so I filled in whenever she needed me to."

Caroline, who had previously battled bladder and retinal cancer, publicly revealed her lung cancer diagnosis in 2014.

She entered remission, but the disease tragically returned, leaving her with a heartbreaking prognosis of just 3 to 12 months to live.

When Caroline died two months later, many of her loved ones were stunned, as she had only told a handful of people just how ill she truly was.

Gogglebox airs every Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.
