Poundland has provided an update for shoppers as the brand makes a huge shift in plans to close a popular store. As the bargain chain closes shops in many UK towns and cities, there are plans in the works to bid farewell to its stores in Rivergate Shopping Centre, Irvine.
The shop hs been due to close on Sunday (September 14) as one of the 68 stores saying goodbye to the high street as a part of their new plans to restructure. However, shoppers will be pleased to learn this major store will remain open for the time being. After the news of the proposed closure, shoppers were keen to clear the shelves in anticipation and left the store practically empty.
Following a new agreement with the landlord, the shop has restocked the shelves. Just last month, the chain received a go-ahead from the high court to continue full steam ahead with the big changes, after a sale to Gordon Brothers. Fans of Poundland celebrate the news, as the dramatic restructuring plans have seen the business close up to 57 shops. An excited shopper shared online: "Aww this is fantastic news. I'm sooo pleased for all the girls who work there."
Meanwhile, another happy customer wrote: "Glad Poundland to live on." Another person shared that they were "buzzing" to hear the shop it will stay in the shopping centre.
As a result of these shops shutting, it's thought that up to 1,000 jobs will be lost, according to reports. Six of its store closures, set to take place on September 28, include branches in the likes of Havant, Newport and Swanley.
With this also comes a major change to their online presence and shopper loyalty, as come September 16, people will no longer be able to buy products from the website. Along with this, their loyalty scheme, Poundland Perks, will be axed.
As Poundland plans on clearing the shelves ahead of these closures, shoppers can expect to see clearance sales taking place in many branches - including deals of 90% off.
It is believed Poundland is going back to basics, means increasing its original £1 product offering. Thanks to the big shake-up, customers can expect to see more £1 items and products between £2 and £3 across all stores, rolling out this month.
Reports suggest that the number of items available at just £1 will increase to 60%. Meanwhile, some 20% of goods will be sold at £2, and an additional 20% will be sold at £3.
