Enhancing Connectivity in Bihar

Bihar is witnessing a significant transformation in its rural infrastructure, with roads connecting villages to major urban centers. Under the Bihar Rural Road Maintenance Policy of 2018, the state has set an ambitious goal to repair and maintain a total of 16,171 rural roads, spanning 40,259.355 kilometers. So far, 15,169 roads, covering a length of 36,894.565 kilometers, have already been revitalized.

Improving Access to Essential Services

These roads are providing villagers with easier access to markets, hospitals, schools, colleges, and employment opportunities. The government has granted administrative approval for the maintenance of all 16,171 roads, with a total length of 40,259 kilometers. To support this initiative, the Bihar government is investing over ₹20,000 crores. The completion of repairs on 15,169 rural roads, totaling 36,894 kilometers, marks a significant achievement. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar emphasizes that the aim of the Bihar Rural Road Maintenance Policy is not only to construct rural roads but also to ensure their long-term upkeep.

Year-Round Accessibility

The program ensures regular maintenance of rural roads and bridges, allowing villagers to travel easily throughout the year, regardless of weather conditions. These roads are opening up new markets for farmers' produce. Children who once had to cross rivers to reach school can now cycle there with ease. Additionally, villagers no longer need to carry sick individuals on makeshift stretchers over rough paths to hospitals. In times of floods or other natural disasters, these rural roads facilitate quicker relief efforts. The transformation of rural roads is significantly improving the quality of life in Bihar's rural areas.

Eastern Champaran Leads in Road Repairs

In terms of road maintenance, Eastern Champaran district is leading the way in Bihar. Out of 957 selected roads, repairs have been completed on 909, covering a total length of 2,389.245 kilometers. Following closely is Muzaffarpur district, where repairs on 664 out of 718 roads have been finalized, achieving a target of 1,861.527 kilometers. West Champaran ranks third, with 598 out of 617 roads repaired, totaling 1,996.312 kilometers. Other districts such as Saran, Samastipur, Gaya, and Vaishali have also made significant progress in their road repair initiatives.
