Rashid Khan Achieves Historic Milestone
BAN vs AFG: Afghanistan's captain and star leg-spinner Rashid Khan has made history by becoming the top wicket-taker in T20I Asia Cup history, surpassing India's renowned swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar. This achievement occurred during Afghanistan's Group B match against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2025, held at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
Rashid showcased his exceptional skills once again, concluding his spell with impressive figures of 2/26 in four overs. The 26-year-old now boasts 14 wickets in 10 Asia Cup T20I matches, with an average of 18.00 and best figures of 3/22. Bhuvneshwar, who previously held the record, now ranks second with 13 wickets from six matches, maintaining an impressive average of 9.46 and best figures of 5/4.
Rashid's dominance against Bangladesh in T20 matches has been remarkable. In 12 T20I encounters, he has claimed 24 wickets at an outstanding average of 10.75, taking a wicket every 11.5 balls while maintaining an economy rate of just 5.60, which is exceptional in the shortest format of the game.
Despite Rashid's stellar performance, Afghanistan faced challenges in containing the Bangladeshi batting lineup. Bangladesh managed to score a competitive 154/5, with a solid start that gradually lost momentum. The opening pair of Saif Hassan (30) and Tanzid Hasan (52) established a strong foundation with a 63-run partnership, putting pressure on Afghanistan's bowlers early on.
Once that partnership was broken, Afghanistan's spin attack, including Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Mohammad Nabi, and Allah Ghazanfar, began to tighten their grip. Captain Litton Das struggled to find his rhythm, and despite being well-placed at 87/1 after 10 overs, Bangladesh couldn't fully capitalize on their position.
Towhid Hridoy contributed a valuable 26 off 20 balls, while Nurul Hasan added a quick 12 off 6 deliveries to help Bangladesh surpass the 150-run mark.
As the match progresses, Rashid Khan's individual brilliance continues to make headlines, solidifying his reputation as one of the greatest T20 bowlers in history.
