Girl group QWER have recently found themselves at the center of major backlash. The group recently announced the release of their lightstick. While the news was celebrated by fans, as soon as the official teaser images and videos of the item came out, netizens were quick to point out the similarities between their lightstick and another popular group’s lightstick.
QWER is accused of plagiarizing THE BOYZ ’s lightstick design
Recently, the girl group shared photos of their upcoming official lightstick, which ended up going viral. However, many netizens pointed out how the lightstick seems to be the same as THE BOYZ 's official lightstick as well. Many posted photos and videos online, comparing the designs of the two lightsticks and speculating that the girl group plagiarized the official design.

A post about the same has also gone viral, sparking a massive debate over whether the girls’ company had plagiarized the design or not. Many shared that it could simply be a coincidence, as the structure is basic, while many others pointed out that it seems to be too direct for it to be a mishap or coincidence.

One comment about the matter read, “It looks exactly the same. The only lightstick shaped like a megaphone is THE BOYZ’s, lol. From the side, it’s literally identical, and the back looks just like the newly updated version,” while another shared that, “No, this is a bit much… If they even copied the heart shape, that’d be one thing.”
Many also shared that even if it is a coincidence, the company should have done more research and should have been more careful with their design as well.
A third comment from a netizen read, “Looking at the comparison photos, yeah, they do look similar.”
QWER debuted in 2023 with four members: Chodan, Hina, Magenta, and Siyeon . They debuted with their first single album titled ‘ Harmony from Discord,’ which garnered them a lot of praise from the public at the time of release.
