In a major industrial milestone the state’s first plastic park is to come up on 88 acres of land in village Narkataha, strategically positioned along the Gorakhpur Link Expressway.

The initiative stems from the central government’s Plastic Park Scheme, designed to boost India’s participation in international plastic trade through strategic cluster development. It is among the 10 plastic parks approved nationwide. In the facility developed by Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA), approximately five dozen plots of the 92 available units have already been allocated through the e-allotment process.

The park aims to support the downstream plastic processing industry, promote investment, boost production and exports, and create employment.

Production has commenced in several units, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath set to inaugurate three major companies representing a collective investment of Rs 120 crore. Among these, the largest investor is Technoplast Packaging Private Limited, which has invested Rs 96 crore and created 250 jobs. Om Flax Industries Private Limited follows with a Rs 17 crore investment employing 50 people, while Gajanan Polyplast rounds out the trio with Rs 7 crore invested and 25 employees.

Three additional private companies APL Apollo Tubes Limited, Greentech Bharat Private Limited (SLMG Group), and Kapila Agro Industries have also secured land. Their combined investment of Rs 640 crore investment will generate 1,200 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Beyond manufacturing, the park emphasises skill development and environmental responsibility. The Central Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology Institute (CIPET) will establish a Rs 16 crore skill training and common facility centre on five acres of land provided free by GIDA. Environmental concerns are addressed through a Rs 93.52 crore Common Effluent Treatment Plant spanning 11.15 acre in Adilapar.

With the Central Government contributing 25 per cent of the project’s Rs 69.58 crore cost as grant funding, and an additional Rs 281 crore earmarked for essential infrastructure including roads, drainage systems, and electrical facilities, this plastic park represents a comprehensive industrial ecosystem.
