Karan johar: The Delhi High Court has given great relief to the famous filmmaker Karan Johar regarding the protection of his personality rights. The court clearly stated in its interim order that disputed videos, mimes and other objectionable posts being broadcast against them on social media platforms should be removed immediately. The court, describing them as defamable material, feared Jauhar’s image and brand value to harm them.

According to the report, Justice said that the initial evaluation shows that videos and mimes put on some social media accounts include derogatory vocabulary, unholy comments and objectionable gestures. The court admitted that such material could tarnish Jauhar’s public reputation and violate his personality rights. The court believes that Valley i.e. Karan Johar has the right to stop the spread of such materials to protect his honor and credit.

Instructions to remove social media accounts

Along with this, the court directed to remove the social media accounts which were using Johar’s name without permission. The court said that these accounts can confuse the general public that they are the official or authorized accounts of Karan Johar, whereas it is not. This type of activity is not only misuse of their name and identity but also a direct violation of their personality rights.

The court clarified that any public personality has the right not to use their name, image or identity without permission for any commercial or personal benefit. The court said that the right to freedom of expression does not mean that someone’s image tarnishing material should be spread.

After this order, social media platforms and the parties concerned have been instructed to remove the defamable material by taking action with immediate effect. This decision is being considered an important step to the security of personality rights and privacy on social media, which can also become a passion for other public celebrities in future.
