Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin intervened and ‘resolved’ the feud between Sun Network head Kalanithi Maran and former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran. The tiff between Maran brothers came to light after Dayanidhi sent a legal notice to his brother alleging he fraudulently took possession of the company’s major shares in 2003.

In a letter sent to the Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange on Monday, the Sun TV Network the issue between the brothers has been ‘resolved’ and the younger brother has withdrawn all legal notices against Kalanithi.

“We would like to inform you that we have now been informed by the Promoter of the Company that all the legal notices issued by the family member to the Promoter of the Company, his relative and other un individuals have been unconditionally and irrevocably withdrawn by the said family member and the issues hereby stand resolved,” it said.

The company added, “We reiterate that the issue of the legal notices and the withdrawal of such legal notices do not pertain to the business or management of the Company or its day-to-day functioning and being the family matter of the Promoter, are purely personal in nature.”

The feud between the Maran brothers came to light after Dayanidhi sent a notice to Kalanithi, accusing him, his wife and a few others of take control of Sun TV Network while their father, veteran Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Murasoli Maran, was ill. In his legal notice sent to the media baron in June, Dayanidhi charged that Kalanithi Maran, his wife Kavery Maran, and six others had schemed and carried out a hostile takeover of the BSE and NSE-listed media company.

“As part of executing your premeditated fraudulent scheme, taking advantage of the family’s situation, especially when my client’s father’s health was critically ill, that he could pass away at any moment and the entire family was concerned about his deteriorating health, [Kavery and Kalanithi Maran] commenced your first illegal activity in September 2003,” Dayanidhi charged in the notice.

However, when news emerged, Chief Minister Stalin, who is also uncle of the Maran brothers, mediated truce and resolved the issue. Besides Stalin, DMK MP M.K. Kanimozhi was also involved in the truce talks, reports suggest. According to reports, the Karunanidhi siblings involved when a similar tiff broke out between the Maran brothers in late 2000s.

The development comes as Superstar Rajnikanth’s Coolie, produced by Kalanithi Maran, is set to release on August 14.
