Navratri 2025: In Hinduism, the festival of Navratri is considered to be the biggest festival of worship of Shakti. During this time, Goddess Maa is invited by establishing an urn from house to house. According to the scriptures, the Kalash is a symbol of the universe and the coconut placed on it is considered to be a sign of prosperity, power and purity, but there are some special rules to keep coconut on the Kalash, which are given the grace of the mother only after following properly.

Importance of keeping coconut

Coconut is also called 'Shreephal'. By offering it to the mother, there is a habit of good fortune and happiness and prosperity in life. The coconut placed on the Kalash is considered a symbol of the head of the goddess, which connects a direct relationship between the devotee and the Mother Goddess. This is the reason why it is established according to extreme caution and classical rules.

Rules to place coconut on urn

• Use clean and unbroken coconut- Broken, split or burnt coconut should not be offered to the mother.
• Wrap coconut in red or yellow cloth- Wrap coconut in clean cloth and tie molly (red thread) on it.
• Fill the holy water in the urn- Install coconut only by adding betel nut, Akshat (rice), coin and pancharatna in Ganga water or pure water.
• Use mango or Ashoka leaves- It is considered auspicious to decorate five leaves on the mouth of the urn before keeping coconut.
• Take care of the main direction- Install coconut only by placing the urn towards east or north direction.
• Kiss auspiciousAccording to the belief, the face of the Kalash is towards the seeker, it is a law and auspicious.

Coconut installation method

First of all purify the place of worship of the house. Keep soil or metal urn by laying a clean posture. Fill water and add betel nut, rice and coin. Apply mango leaves on top of the urn and wrap coconut in cloth and molly and install it. Finally, call the Goddess Maa and light a lamp and incense sticks.

Why is this tradition special?

It is believed that the urn installed by this method and coconut arpan, provides nine goddesses in the house. This removes diseases and diseases and brings happiness and prosperity in the family. This is the reason that coconut installation during Navratri is considered the most important link of Goddess Puja.
