New Delhi: Smriti Mandhana scripted history on Saturday after she registered the fastest-ever fifty by an Indian batter in the history of women’s ODI cricket. The southpaw smashed her half-century in just 23 balls during the chase in the third and final ODI match against Australia women at the Arun Jaitley stadium in New Delhi.

Mandhana surpassed her fellow teammate Richa Ghosh who held the record for the quickest fifty off just 26 balls. The blazing half-century came in no time as India were off to a whisker in the tough chase against the Aussie women. Chasing a mammoth score of 413, India women’s team will have to do wonders to win the encounter and register their first ODI series win against Australia.

Mandhana in terrific form in ODI series

Mandhana has been in a terrific form in the current ODI series as she smashed a fifty in the first ODI and followed it up with a century in the second match. Meanwhile earlier in the game, Beth Mooney’s record-breaking century and half-centuries from Ellyse Perry and Georgia Voll powered Australia women to a mammoth score of 412 runs in the stipulated 50 overs.

While Mooney was out after scoring 138 runs, Perry and Voll smashed 68 and 81 runs respectively to wreck the efforts of the Indian bowlers. Skipper Alyssa Healy and Ashleigh Gardner also made useful contributions with the bat to lift the team’s total above 400-run mark.

For India women, Arundhati Reddy was the standout bowler with three wickets while Renuka Singh and Deepti Sharma claimed two wickets apiece. Kranti Gaud and Sneh Rana also claimed a wicket each to contribute from their end.
