Just visualise a young girl from a remote town of India successfully stepping onto the world stage when millions of cricket fans are cheering in awe, isn't it a dream? Yes someone is living that dream as of now and that girl is no other than Deepti Sharma, a synonymous name in the field of cricket with determination, talent and breaking records in Indian women's cricket team. Born in Shaharanpur a city of Uttar Pradesh on August 24, 1997. She was not inclined towards cricket while growing up but the interesting thing is, it was her brother's encouragement led her to take up the sport so she began training st the age of 12 and her dedication towards the game quickly bore fruit as well. At the age of 17 she made her debut for the Indian women's cricket team which shows her immense potential as an all rounder player.
Rise to Prominence

Deepti Sharma on cusp of top spot in T20I rankings following heroics in England

Deepti Sharma came into limelight in 2017 during a big cricket match against Ireland and she and her teammate Poonam Raut scored a huge run together without getting out. They made 320 runs which was a world record for the first two batters in women’s cricket and Deepti herself scored 188 runs which was the second highest ever by a woman in an ODI at that time so her consistent performances continued in major tournaments and in the 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup as well Deepti played a pivotal role scoring 216 runs and taking 12 wickets helping India reach the finals.
Career Achievements

Over the passing years Deepti Sharma has become one of India’s best all round cricket players and by 2025 she has played 112 One Day Internationals scoring 2,524 runs and taking 140 wickets. Not only that in T20 matches she has played 129 games, scored 1,100 runs and taken 144 wickets. She has also played 5 Test matches and again scoring 319 runs and taking 20 wickets. These achievements made her so special because she is the one who became the first Indian woman to score 1,000 runs and take 100 wickets in T20 internationals.
Leadership in the Women's Premier League

"I picked that up from Rishabh Pant": Deepti Sharma credits Pant for her one-handed six

There is no doubt that Deepti Sharma is really excellent in cricket and people noticed that in Indian cricket leagues too because in the first Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction the team of UP Warriorz bought her for ₹2.6 crore and this made her the second highest paid Indian player after Smriti Mandhana. In the 2024 season Deepti scored the most runs for her team 295 runs and she was the fourth highest scorer in the whole league. She was very good at both batting and bowling and for that she won the Player of the Tournament award.
Deepti was appointed as the captain for UP Warriorz in 2025 following Alyssa Healy's injury who was captain before her.
In 2025 Deepti was appointed as the captain of the UP Warriorz, stepping into the leadership role following Alyssa Healy's injury. She kind of aims to mirror Healy's bold and risk taking leadership style which she admires a lot.
So all these happened not in some movie but in real life where Deepti Sharma started as a young girl in Saharanpur and worked really hard to become a big cricket star. And here she is breaking records and helping her team win so Deepti is a hero for kids who want to play cricket especially girls not only in India but all over the world.
