The digestive system digests the food we eat and converts it into usable nutrients. This means that our digestive system breaks down food into nutrients. Our body uses these nutrients.

Where does food pass through the body?

The food we eat reaches the stomach via the esophagus. Here, the food mixes with gastric juices and digestive enzymes. This process is essential for the mass disintegration of food particles. After gastric processing, the digested food reaches the small intestine. Here, within four to six hours, digestive enzymes and bile break down the food into nutrients like protein, carbohydrates, and fat. Water, fiber, and undigested materials then pass into the large intestine. Here, within 12 to 48 hours, water and electrolytes are absorbed from the colon's waste material, forming feces.

Water: Water takes no time to digest. It is absorbed into the bloodstream within 10 to 20 minutes. However, if you drink water immediately after eating, it may take up to 2 hours to digest.

Potatoes: Experts say that potatoes take 90-120 minutes to digest, similar to chicken. Cooked vegetables take only 40 minutes. Those suffering from stomach problems should consume cooked vegetables.

Green Vegetables: Eating green vegetables is very beneficial for staying healthy. They help prevent many diseases. According to health experts, green vegetables are digested in about 40 to 60 minutes.

Fruit Juices: According to experts, fruit and vegetable juices take only 15-20 minutes to digest. This is also beneficial for health. Therefore, it should be included in the diet.

Dairy Products: Full-cream milk and its products take a long time to digest. These can take approximately 2 to 3 hours. Consulting an expert is essential for stomach problems.

Fish: Experts say it takes 45-60 minutes to digest cooked fish. Fish digests faster than meat, so it can be eaten at regular intervals.

Red meat: Red meat can take approximately 3 to 5 hours to digest, which is quite a long time. Chicken, on the other hand, takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Those with stomach problems should avoid eating beef.
