Kolkata: The week beginning September 29 and ending on October 3, 2025 is studded with banking holidays. All banks, both public and private, will be closed for a large part of the week in different states. The banking regulator of the country, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), draws up a list of holidays which are applicable both all over the country and that in different states. The holidays this week are due to festivals and Gandhi Jayanti. Below you will get a list of the states where banks will be closed on different days of the week.

Banking holidays this week

September 29 — Banks closed in Agartala, Kolkata and Guwahati to observe Maha Saptami of Durga Puja festival

September 30 — Banks will be closed in Agartala, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Imphal, Jaipur, Kolkata, Patna and Ranchi to observe Maha Ashtami of Durga Puja
October 1 — Many cities such as Agartala, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Itanagar, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, Shillong, and Thiruvananthapuram will be closed due to Maha Nabami f Durga Puja and Navaratri end
October 2 — Banks will be closed all over the country for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti as well as Dasami of Durga Puja and Dussehra and Janmotsav of Sri Sri Sankardeva.
October 3 — Banks closed in Gangtok for Durga Puja and Dasain
October 4 — Banks closed in Gangtok for Durga Puja and Dasain
October 5 — It’s Sunday and banks will be closed all over the country as usual

These banking services will be open

Though the branches of banks will be closed, thanks to the proliferation of technology, many banking services are available through ATMs, online and mobile apps of banks. These are checking balance, making payments (both digital and online), creating FDs or breaking them and getting the money in savings accounts etc. For cash emergencies, one can always visit ATMs which are there in plenty in most neighbourhoods. However, many people, especially the elders, are not comfortable with digital and online services. For them knowing whether a bank branch is open is crucial.
