Zomato's new 'Healthy Mode' rates meals based on nutrition
29 Sep 2025
Zomato has launched a new feature called 'Healthy Mode' to help users make healthier food choices.
The feature, which is currently available in Gurugram, rates meals based on their nutritional value. It will soon be rolled out in other cities as well.
Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal announced the launch of this feature on X (formerly Twitter).
Addressing the nutritional gap in food choices
CEO's perspective
In his post, Goyal acknowledged that while Zomato had made ordering food easier, it hadn't done enough to guide people toward healthier meals.
He emphasized that the company's mission of "better food for more people" should focus more on nutrition.
The 'Healthy Mode' feature is an attempt to address this gap by providing users with a way to choose meals based on their nutritional content.
How 'Healthy Mode' works
Scoring mechanism
Under the 'Healthy Mode,' each dish is rated on a scale from Low to Super based on its protein, complex carbohydrates, fiber, and micronutrients content.
This scoring system is powered by artificial intelligence and restaurant data.
However, the app only provides a simple explanation as to why a particular dish is considered healthy under this new feature.
A personal mission for Goyal
User-friendly design
"This is not your run of the mill "healthy mode" for beginners. We have kept the bar very high, that professional athletes can rely on healthy mode to find food that works for them," said Goyal in his post.
"This is personal for me. I've carried the guilt that Zomato made it easy to eat whatever you craved, but not easy to eat what your body needed. Healthy Mode is our first real step in putting that right."
Future improvements to the feature
Future improvements
Goyal said this is just the beginning of their journey with 'Healthy Mode.'
He said Zomato plans to improve the feature as it expands, taking into account user feedback and suggestions.
The company hopes that by doing so, they can make healthy eating more accessible and convenient for all users in the future.
