New Delhi: Tata Motors have taken the second place in September 2025 retail sales, going past both Mahindra & Mahindra and Hyundai Motor India, with a total sale of 40,954 units according to Vahan data for the month. The September figures exclude data from Telangana, though they show Tata Motors have made a good dent in general, with Mahindra & Mahindra selling 37,015 units and Hyundai Motor India’s 35,443 units. 

It comes at a time when the race for second place in auto is becoming much more cutthroat. In terms of wholesale, Tata Motors haven’t given any figures about the shipments. Mahindra had some good dispatches with the company making a record in terms of wholesale of over 56,000 units, much of it due to the pile-up demand from August itself. 

Even Hyundai had reported domestic wholesale numbers of 51,547 units in September 2025, making a slight 0.9 per cent increase over the 51,101 units sold in September 2024. The wholesale numbers also show a 17 per cent improvement from August’s number, which stayed at 44,001 units, suggesting that festive season demand is starting to convert at the dealer sales level. 

The newest auto retail trends show a big month-on-month decline in sales of Hyundai in India, with the Korean brand getting serious competition from Tata Motors and Mahindra. Hyundai, for a decade, had a claim on the position, but there has been a rise in demand for home brands. 

The year 2025 has seen some volatility, and the month of September has followed the same trend, and the traditional orders have been seeing some ups and downs. Mahindra have themselves made a record, with the 56,233 units being the highest-ever monthly domestic passenger vehicle sales in September 2025, breaking the October 2024’s 54,504 units. It is a ten per cent growth from September 2024 as well.
