Aadhar Card Update: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has abolished the fee for compulsory biometric updates (MBU-1) for children. This new facility has become effective from October 1 and will continue for the next one year. About 6 crore children are expected to benefit from this decision. Note that only their picture, name, date of birth, address and birth certificate are taken during the Aadhaar registration of children under five years of age. At this age, a scan of fingers and pupils of the eyes is not taken, as their biometrics are not yet developed.
When the child is five years old, the first mandatory update of his biometric data, called MBU-1, is made. Subsequently, the second biometric update is made at the age of 15.
Biometric update fee
Earlier, a fee of Rs 125 was charged for these updates, but now this service will be completely free for all children aged 5 to 17 years. UIDAI says that their Aadhaar card becomes more accurate and useful by the biometric updates of children, which makes it easier to avail government schemes like admission, scholarships, entrance examination registration and DBT.
“Aadhaar Dialogue” held in Hyderabad
Last month, UIDAI organized a “Aadhar Samvad” conference in Hyderabad, which was attended by over 700 policy makers, startups and industry experts. The purpose of this program was to further strengthen the services to Aadhaar.
Importance of Aadhaar in digital infrastructure
Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) S.K. Krishnan said that Aadhaar is the foundation of India’s digital public infrastructure. He called it the safest database and said that UIDAI should further expand his innovations to ensure public facility.
