On this day, devotees keep fast and worship in the light of the moon at night. It is believed that on this night, the Moon is in its most bright state, and its rays raise nectar.
The night of Sharad Purnima has been given special importance because this night is full of full arts of the moon. Devotees take a bath on this day and take a pledge to fast and worship Maa Lakshmi and Chandradev.
Devotees make kheer (pumpkin rice) with Ganga water on this day and keep it in the moonlight all night under the open sky. It is said that the kheer kept in the moonlight becomes like nectar, which is received as a prasad the next day. This tradition is based on the belief that the rays of the Moon have medicinal properties, which increase the immunity of the body.
