New Delhi: Harjas Singh, an Indian-origin Australian player, played a remarkable innings of his lifetime as he smashed a triple century in a 50-over game. The former U19 World Cup-winning cricketer scored 314 runs in just 141 deliveries against the Sydney Cricket Club at the Pattern Park.

The left-hand batter’s astonishing innings included 35 maximums and 14 fours with a humongous 222.69 strike-rate. He came at the no. 3 position after the first powerplay and took his time to settle in the crease. Harjas reached the three-digit mark in 74 balls, but after completing his century, the 20-year-old batter took Sydney’s bowlers on remand and scored 214 in the next 67 balls.

Harjas was a part of Australia’s U19 World Cup squad alongside Sam Konstas, Hugh Weibgen, and Harry Dixon. He was the top scorer in Australia’s innings as he scored 55 runs to help his side lift the World Cup. After his decent campaign, Harjas was unable to make his way to the national side due to a poor run in the domestic circuit.

In the same innings, Kontas was dismissed for a duck, but now he is playing in Australia’s red-ball squad, while Harjas is playing in grade games. The game in which Harjas scored a triple ton is not included in the list-A game.

“I’ve missed out the last season or two, worrying about stuff outside my own game,” Harjas Singh admitted. “Now I just want to focus on what’s in front of me,” he added after his brilliant innings.

Harjas has now etched his name in the record books, as he now registered the third-highest individual score in Sydney first-grade history. Victor Trumper still tops the list with 335 runs in 1903, and in second place is Phil Jaques with 321 in 2007.
