Fishermen found a unique fish on Monday (October 6) near Pambon in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu, which the locals identify as ‘Doomsday Fish’ i.e. Qayamat’s fish. The fishermen had trapped the sea from Rameswaram port on Sunday and while returning from the Gulf of Mannar, this rare fish stuck in their net.
The fishermen saw a bright, long fish in their webs, weighing about six kg. The fish was identified as an oarfish, which is a rare species of deep sea and is caught in normal fishing nets.
Ofish is called ‘Doomsday Fish’, the ‘doomsday fish’, the ‘doomsday’ is said to be the signs of earthquakes or other natural disasters according to the mythological belief of Japan and its catch according to coastal fishermen. The founding of this rare species caused both surprise and curiosity for fishermen.
This rare fishing phenomenon reminds another rare incident in Pudukkotai district of Tamil Nadu last year, when local fishermen rescued a young Dugong from the trap. The fishermen carefully freed Dugong from the trap and left safely in the sea.
