The Uttarakhand government is actively pursuing the establishment of two new universities, as confirmed by State Higher Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat. One of these will focus on skill development, while the other will serve as a residential university for students from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Residential Schools. A formal proposal is expected to be presented to the cabinet shortly.

The upcoming Skill University is anticipated to significantly impact the youth of Uttarakhand. The government plans to offer a range of professional courses at this institution, with reports indicating that it will provide 25 different courses at fees considerably lower than those of private universities. This initiative aims to support the local youth in their educational pursuits.

Uttarakhand has recently positioned itself as a center for higher education, with a growing number of institutions. According to the state's Higher Education Department, there are currently five state universities and 118 affiliated colleges. Additionally, the state hosts one central university, 26 private universities, 244 private colleges, and 21 non-government colleges. Furthermore, there are three technical institutes and one Ayurvedic medical institute operating in the region.
