Smriti Mandhana has made her mark in history. Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana became the first player to score 1000 ODI runs in a calendar year. Following three dismal performances in the Women's World Cup 2025, Mandhana pitched up for the IND-W vs AUS-W match on Sunday. 

 

Smriti Mandhana has had a golden run in ODIs. The left-handed batter scored her first half-century of the Women's World Cup 2025 in deciding encounter against Australia on Sunday. While doing so, Mandhana became the first to hit 1000 runs in a calendar year in ODI cricket. Indian vice-captain surpassed Belinda Clark's 970 runs, which she scored in 1997 against South Africa and now crossed the 4-figure mark at Vizag. 

 

She then became only the 5th of all time to make over 5000 ODI runs. Mandhana required 56 to complete the milestone, and he did it while placing her team in control. She is only the second Indian of all time to cross the mark.

The Indian vice-captain took 112 games to reach the record. Mandhana is the youngest and quickest to reach there in terms of innings (112) and balls played (5568), surpassing Stafanie Taylor (129 innings) and Suzie Bates (6182 balls), respectively. Sunday's performance is Mandhana's 10th 50+ against Australia in ODIs. The most by an Indian batswoman, overtaking Mithali Raj's 9. 

 

Smriti Mandhana's record-breaking feat is yet another golden page in Indian women's cricket. Being the first to reach 1000 runs in a calendar year and more than 5000 runs in her career in one instance demonstrates her unparalleled consistency and desire for greatness. Her supremacy against the best sides such as Australia proves her capability to handle pressure situations.
