Lord Shri Krishna had lifted Govardhan Mountain on his finger to save the people of Braj from the wrath of Devraj Indra. This auspicious festival is celebrated remembering the same Leela of God. Lord Krishna, cows and Govardhan Mountain are worshiped on this day. Various rituals are also performed.

This year the festival of Govardhan Puja is going to be celebrated on 22nd October. Pratipada Tithi will start on 21st October at 5:54 pm and Pratipada Tithi will end on 22nd October at 8:16 pm. The auspicious time of puja on this day will be from 6:30 am to 8:47 am.

What to do on the day of Govardhan Puja? (What to do on Govardhan Puja 2025?)

On this day, the shape of Govardhan Mountain should be made with cow dung in the courtyard or main entrance of the house. The idol of Lord Krishna should be established in the middle of it. On this day, 56 Bhog or Annakoot should be prepared. Then it should be offered to Lord Shri Krishna and Govardhan Maharaj. Kadhi-rice, millet, and butter-mishri must be included in this. Cow should be worshiped on this day. Also the cow should be fed green fodder. The drawn shape of Govardhan Mountain should be revolved seven times. If possible, one should circumambulate Govardhan Mountain. Mantras should be chanted while parikrama. One should visit the temple of Lord Krishna. Satvik food should be eaten on this day.

What not to do on the day of Govardhan Puja? (What to do on Govardhan Puja 2025?)

Tulsi leaves should not be plucked on the day of Govardhan Puja and the new moon day preceding it. No tree or plant should be cut on this day. Tamasic food should not be cooked at home on the day of Govardhan Puja. One should not eat meat, mandira and other tamasic food on this day.
