Most Hundreds Ranji Trophy: Jammu and Kashmir captain Paras Dogra scored his 32nd century in the first Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai at Sher-e-Kashmir in Srinagar on Thursday and thus became the second-highest century-scorer in the history of the first-class tournament. Dogra overtook former Indian batsman Ajay Sharma’s 31 centuries in Ranji Trophy and is now second only to Wasim Jaffer’s 40 centuries.
40-year-old Dogra is also second after Jaffer in the list of batsmen who have scored most runs in Ranji Trophy. Dogra has scored more than 9,500 runs in the tournament, while Jaffer has scored 12,038 runs.
Dogra remained unbeaten at the end of the second day’s play against Mumbai after scoring 112 runs on 169 balls, which included 16 fours in his innings. His performance with the bat helped the hosts recover from a delicate situation of 2 for 2 in the second over in reply to Mumbai’s 386 runs in the first innings. Dogra made Jammu and Kashmir’s comeback by making important partnerships with Abdul Samad (94 runs) and Abid Mushtaq (68) for the fourth and seventh wickets respectively.
Dogra, who made his first-class debut in 2001–02, represented Himachal Pradesh for more than a decade before being transferred to Pondicherry ahead of the 2018–19 season. The right-handed batsman moved to Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the 2024-25 season and led the team to the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals. His team’s stellar performance in the last eight included consecutive wins over strong teams like Mumbai and Baroda. However, as a batsman, Dogra had a very disappointing season, where he averaged 27.84 and scored only one century in 14 innings.
