New Delhi. Once again news of relief and hope is emerging for government employees. Even though the 8th Pay Commission has not been officially announced by the Central Government yet, the discussion regarding its possible structure has gained momentum. Especially employees with grade pay ₹ 4200 to ₹ 5400 are expected to see a significant increase in their basic salary.
Fitment Factor: Basic Basis of Pay Commission
The soul of any pay commission is its “Fitment Factor”. This is the coefficient by which the existing basic salary is multiplied, and the new basic salary is decided. The fitment factor in the 7th Pay Commission was 2.57. Due to this, the minimum wage was increased from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000. Now that the discussions on 8th Pay Commission are in full swing, experts and reports are estimating various fitment factors like 1.92, 2.08 and 2.86. Of these, 1.92 is considered to be the most practical and probable.
