Stats: Criticized for strike rate, Pratika Rawal becomes joint-fastest to 1000 runs in WODIs (Photo source: BCCI)

Pratika Rawal has etched her name in history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach 1,000 runs in WODIs in the quickest time. She surpassed the likes of Smriti Mandhana and became the joint-fastest overall to achieve the milestone in one-day internationals. Rawal reached 1,000 runs when she scored 15 against New Zealand Women in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.

The Indian opener has been in meagre form throughout the ongoing tournament, registering scores of 31, 37, 21, 7, and 5 in the marquee event so far. She now shares the record of reaching the four-digit landmark in just 23 innings with former Australian batter Lindsay Reeler. Other players on the list include Nicole Bolton and Meg Lanning, who took 25 innings each to reach the same milestone in the 50-over format.

Since making her debut in 2024, Rawal has amassed over 1000 runs from 28 matches, averaging close to 50 in the One-Day format. She has also struck one century and seven fifties, establishing herself as one of Indian Women’s most reliable and consistent openers. Her remarkable consistency and ability to anchor innings have made her a vital cog in India’s batting line-up.

Earlier this year, Rawal had already broken another record, surpassing former England captain Charlotte Edwards to become the fastest to reach 500 runs in Women’s ODIs. She achieved the milestone by scoring 78 from 91 balls against South Africa during the second match of a tri-national series in Sri Lanka, accomplishing it in just eight innings, one fewer than Edwards’ nine innings.

Looking ahead, India can secure a place in the semifinals with a win on Thursday, October 23, while New Zealand will have to wait until the final round of league matches. A victory against India, however, would be a significant step in that direction. India Women will play their final group match against Bangladesh Women on October 26, aiming to continue their campaign in the tournament.
